Fiesta Cacao sa Dabaw

MARINGAL ang tatlong araw na pagdiriwang ng 31st founding anniversary ng Southern Mindanao Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development Consortium (SMAARRDEC) na may temang “Sustaining AANR productivity and profitability through S&T” na pinamahalaan ng Davao Oriental State College of Science and Technology (DOSCST) at ng provincial government unit (PGU) ng Davao Oriental na ginanap noong Agosto 23-25, 2018, sa Honey’s Hotel and Restaurant, City of Mati, Davao Oriental.

Tampok sa pagdiriwang ang “Wow! Cacao FIESTA sa Dabaw” na  nagdaos ng aktibidad tulad ng Technology to People, Cacao Production Protocol and Crop Maintenance, DA-PRDP Support to Cacao Value Chain at business coaching.
Sa pamamagitan ng Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCAARRD), isinasagawa sa mga regional consortia ang Farms and Industry Encounters through Science and Technology Agenda (FIESTA) na naglalayong makamit ang masagana at mapaangat ang kaalaman sa agricultural and aquatic industry at magkaroon ng pagkakataon na pasukin ang negosyo sa pamamagitan ng science and technology.
Sa unang araw ng okasyon ginanap ang motorcade at pagbalik sa venue ipinarada ang mga consortium institution flag na sumuporta sa FIESTA tulad ng DOST-PCAARRD, Agricultural Training Institute (ATI), The Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PhilFIDA), Department of Agriculture (DA), DOST XI, Philippine Coconut Authority-Davao Research Center (PCA-DRC), Bureau of Plant Industry-Davao National Crop Research, Development and Production Support Center (BPI-DNCRDPSC), Davao del Norte State College (DNSC), Southern Philippines Agri-Business and Marine and Aquatic School of Technology (SPAMAST), University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP), Mining and Degraded Areas Rehabilitation Research Center (MDARRC), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Compostela Valley State College (CVSC), Province of Davao Oriental, Cacao Industry Development Association of Mindanao, Inc. (CIDAMi), Davao Oriental State College of Science and Technology (DOSCST), EXCELLENCE, DENR XI.
Pinangunahan ni PCAARRD deputy executive director for administration, Resource Management and Support Services, Dr. Melvin B. Carlos ang okasyon bilang representative ni PCAARRD acting executive director Dr. Reynaldo V. Ebora.

“We hope that FIESTA can help in further strengthening Davao Region’s competitive advantage, particularly in cacao production. May this FIESTA be instrumental in the dissemination of R&D results from production to post-harvest processing, including promotion and marketing,” sa mensahe ni Dr. Ebora.
“I want to highlight the importance of industries in making sure that our resources are explored, not exploited,” saad naman ni SMAARRDEC Consortium director, Dr. Danilo B. Pacoy;, consortium director sa mensahe ni Dr. Lourdes C. Generalao, SMAARRDEC RRDCC Chairperson and President of the University of the Southeastern Philippines (USeP).
Bukod dito, ginanap ang media conference na pinangunahan nina PCAARRD-Applied Communication Division (ACD) director, Marita A. Carlos; Dr. Melvin B. Carlos; Dr. Danilo B. Pacoy; at DOSCST vice president for Research Development and Extension, Dr. Roy G. Ponce.
Ayon kay Dr. Ponce, speaker ng press briefing, nang inalok ng SMAARRDEC sa DOSCST na maging punong abala sa 2018 FIESTA ay buong puso nilang tinaggap ang alok, katuwang ang provincial government ng Davao Oriental, na aktibo at progresibong pinaaangat ang sektor ng agrikultura sa lalawigan, partikular na ang cacao.
Sinabi naman ni Dr. Carlos, regarding sa support ng PCAARRD “we have projects on Science and Technology Community-based Farm (STCBF), and cacao since 3 years back started with close coordination and support from provincial government.
“In Mindanao we have project in cacao that are implemented by USM or University of Southern Mindanao, this are also integrated cacao coffee project that extend in Zamboanga Peninsula,” paglalahad ni Dr. Carlos.
Sa ika-2 araw ng Cacao sa Dabaw, isinagawa ang Regional Farmers and Fisherfolks’ Forum, technology presentation tulad ng Value Adding on Aquatic Produce/n Fish Handling; BFAR’s Bantay Dagat Program; Agro-Tourism and its Influence to Local Community; Banana Pests and Diseases; Organic Native Chicken; and Techno Cliniquing.
Sa ika-3 at huling araw ng FIESTA, ginanap naman ang Regional Symposium on Research and Development Highlights (RSRDH) Paper Presentation (Research Category; Development Category; and Poster Category).
